Foreclosure Crisis Has Made it Difficult for Michigan Residents to Relocate Outside in Search of Jobs

Job offers are coming from outside Michigan but the foreclosure crisis has made it difficult for the residents to relocate outside because they cannot sell their houses.

On February 14th 2008, will be held The Mega Employment Expo at Grand Rapids Deltaplex. It is expected that the event will attract 2,000 to 3,000 attendees. It will be presided over by 25 employees. Of these 6 are from outside Michigan.

Many are willing and keen to work outside but the problem is the low rates being offered for their houses. Kim Floeter is one of the many who is facing a dilemma. He is reluctant to leave behind a new house worth $250,000 but a better life is calling out to him in Louisville, Kentucky. Floeter said, “When jobs come up and it’s a decent paying job, you have to go where the money is.” His house sat on the real estate market shop shelves for six months without any proper buyer. Without selling this house it is impossible for him to buy another in Kentucky.

However, instead of succumbing to foreclosure Floeter signed an agreement with Lighthouse Property Management of Grand Rapids. One of the services provided by the firm is to find reliable tenants and also to look after the Michigan house of Floeter. This will allow Kim to continue with his new job with a peace of mind. He explained, “Then they cut us a check minus, I think, 10%”.

At Kentucky the Floeters shifted to rented quarter. With the money got from the tenants at Michigan and tax write off they are able to keep abreast of their mortgage on the house in Michigan without dishing out much from their pockets.

There are also jobs available in North Dakota provided one is not too selective. Recruiters will be attending the expo. North Dakota is lucky to have an unemployment rate of merely 3.5% and about 10,000 jobs are obtainable in the corporate management section dealing with construction. The idea of selling North Dakota to job seekers is proving a hard task. Shane Goettle of North Dakota Department of Commerce said, “We want to open our doors. We think the state of Michigan enjoys the same climate in many ways. We have more sunny days in North Dakota and less snowfall.”

In Michigan the employment rate is 10.6% forcing many to pack up and start walking.
