Foreclosure Nets In Michael Jackson

Foreclosures spare none – not even national icons. Michael Joseph Jackson or MJ is called The King of Pop. For 40 years he has been a vibrant part of pop culture. Apart from being a musical wizard he is also a dancer par excellence with is own style and uniqueness. He transformed music videos with his high-profile albums. During the 80’s he and his dance-cum-music dominated the entertainment scene. He is one of the first black performers to grab focus on MTV and place MTV on the international scene. Guinness Book of Records has termed him ‘The Most Successful Entertainer of All Time.’ He started off singing with the Jackson Family vocal from the age of five and never looked back.

It was a portentous statement Michael Jackson made when he said after being accused for child molestation in the courthouse at Santa Barbara that he would never go back to his Neverland Ranch. Now his words seem to have come true as he is facing foreclosure on this very piece of property. Jackson is on default for a loan amounting to $23 million. On October 12th this year the unit came to be listed in the foreclosure filings. Jackson was allowed 90 days to clear the dues.

Neverland Ranch is slowly decaying. Photographs have been taken from a helicopter. At one time the trees had been made to look like animals. These are now dying for lack of care. The brushes were arranged to read Neverland Ranch. These too are facing the same fate. The green grass has become dirty mud while the trails and paths are now covered with moss and is no longer shining white and inviting.

There is so much of history tucked into each grain of dust on this place. It was witness to Jackson’s Thriller album. The studio where the recording took place is still there Eddie Van Halen played the guitar in the album. He once roamed the Ranch in the early eighties. Jackson wrote the majority of his lyrics for Bad album sitting on a tree on this very property. There is a strong feeling that the County should convert this estate into a museum. But will the voice of fans and Jackson lovers penetrate the hard hides of moneylenders and grabbers? Does the state have time for sentiments over and above power games and tax collection?
