A non-profit group based in Stockton have been so far working to help families with modest income to own houses of their own. Recently they have stepped up their counseling activities to dealing with those who have been victims of foreclosures. Visionary Home Builders are based in Stockton. Its counselors attend weekend foreclosures – happenings that have been common since last autumn.
During the next two or three months Visionary Home Builders located in 315 N San Joaquin St will further intensify their involvement by setting up a permanent centre and consequently doubling the number of its staffers from three to six. The target is to raise the number to six.
HUD has sanctioned a grant of $500,000 dollars and various banks have been raising funds for the last three weeks. The money will see through their counseling programme for about a year. Fund raising will continue so that the group can maintain operations permanently. It is apprehended that for another two years the community will continue to suffer from foreclosures. After that the agency will focus on those planning to buy new houses for setting up homes. Their spokesperson Ornelas said that they want people to know about their existence – to know that help is available.
The crux of the problem has been that borrowers have been duped into taking unrealistic mortgages and now do not know where to turn to. When the lenders found that they had eaten more than they can digest they too are joining forces to stem the tide of foreclosures. A dead horse cannot be beaten beyond a point. Now the time has come not only to help the fallen stand on their feet but also to see that history does not repeat itself. The community needs hope and education to once more go on with life.
It was announced on Friday that Bank of America Charitable Foundation has sanctioned a grant of $70,000 to Visionary Home Builders. $250,000 have been made to four other non-profit groups in California. Also being helped are three non-profit groups in Sacramento and Kern Counties and those in San Bernardino and Riverside regions. These are some of the worst affected by foreclosures. Visionary Home Builders were given the largest share of the grants. The Mayor was all praise for their efforts. Help is being sought from them by even those who reside outside their zone.
