Why does a tenant pay a rent? To live in a house. So long as the rent is regularly paid the tenant is not supposed to be unduly worried about the roof above the head suddenly flying away. But Laura Morataya got sudden ducking in the foreclosure whirlpool. So got a notice that the house in which she was residing would be soon going up for auction. The owner had not been able to keep up with payment of monthly instalments but Morataya had not been intimated about it. She came to know of it independently from records.
Laura Morataya and her husband live with their one-year-old toddler. The sudden ducking left them choking and spluttering. They struggle to make ends meet from one salary day to another. Without being given the chance to gather in some reserves they are finding themselves sucked into a situation for which they are in no way responsible; for which they should not be made to suffer in any way.
Laura is not alone. Her neighbours Dustin and Kristen Barngrover are in the same soup with their house owner being the one and same person. Fortunately the Barngrovers are already half way through the process of buying another house when they received the notice. But that is beside the point – what if that had not been the case and they did not have a second alternative? They too have a child who needs some essential comforts like air conditioning. Without a toehold on another stepping-stone they would have found themselves drowning without timely warning. The situation is untenable.
Rudy De La Cruz of Los Angeles is the owner of the two houses. Barngrover tried to contact him but failed to do so. Eyewitness News succeeded. Initially the owner tried to feign ignorance but ultimately had to come out clean. According to Rudy the foreclosure of the house tenanted by Moratya has been postponed. Eyewitness News wanted to interview him but he refused upon learning that he would not be paid for granting this favour. However the records confirm that the auction of that house has been delayed. But the house in which the Barngrovers say is scheduled to be put up for auction on 28th August 2008. As per prevalent rules when a house is sold the tenants have a grace period of 30 days to make an exit.

Hi, I am one of tenants living in one of the houses to be auctioned off. I noticed a typo in the story. The house is to be autioned off August 28, 2007 not 2008 which is this Tuesday.
