The foreclosed abandoned house on Prescott Circle is an eyesore for all – all want it to be pulled down before things get worse. It has been lying forgotten for two years attracting crime and disease.
Susan Bland is vociferous in demanding that the city fathers should pull down this four bed roomed dwelling. She is living bang next door to this building that was at one time imposing. Today she is seeing each day the decay setting in close to her own property. Even before she had complained to the authorities about the tall overgrown grass. At that time the owner had been hospitalized. A bank has foreclosed on the house said Larry Payne, a code enforcement personnel of the city. Bland is disgusted with this horrible unit that had been abandoned even before foreclosure had started. She has seen roaches exiting from the house. On many occasions she has had to contact the authorities on an emergency basis. Bland aptly summed up the situation by saying that the property has in all probability got lost in the immense black hole of the current financial situation. Bland is strong in her feelings that the city should pull down the monstrosity without delay.

The house has become mouldy with remains of food taken two years ago. The electric line is no longer connected but the refrigerator is stocked with food. Everywhere there are piles of dirty cups and plates, soiled underclothes, cigarette packets, stubs and beer cans. The city should act before the warm weather sets in. The more people get to know of the vacant house there will be a proliferation of nefarious activities. People will walk in and further mess up this messy situation.
Another neighbour, Ursula Culpepper has the same comments to make and terms the house to be in “pretty bad shape.” She said, “I know they (the former owner’s) took a loan out shortly before she went into a nursing home … the loan is probably worth more now than the house.” She went on to add that there has been a surfeit of crime and daytime forced entries lately in Courthouse Green. They are trying their best to save their own house but the one next door is causing serious headaches.
The issue of this particular house has been raised at police meetings and the residents are hopeful of action. Via
